This house with attached garage overlooks the existing farm property, which still has the original horse barn and pump house. We were able to gain beautiful, direct views of Ragged Mountain to the west by siting the new house on the upper portion of the property. Visitors now drive through the old farm yard and up to the knoll where the new house is sited.
This is from my client on the history of this property, and why it is such a special place for him and his family. “My grandfather, Edward Cunningham, first came to Danbury from Boston in 1925 to raise his horses. Eventually, the Cunningham family relocated from Boston and lived at the farm without plumbing or electricity (although my grandfather kept his job in Boston and commuted via train) until 1941 when my grandfather died suddenly. When he died, my grandmother moved the family (6 children) back to Boston but kept the farm. We would spend all summer there and, during the winter, every weekend. We finally got plumbing (pumped with a gasoline engine) when I was 11 and electricity when I was about 15. I grew up there with loads of aunts, uncles and cousins - all happily crammed into that little house. Despite being a city boy from Boston, the farm is the place that feels most like home to me (my first visit to Danbury was at 3 weeks old!). “
When asked what the future plans for the 57 acre property are, he said “Right now, our daughter, Carolina, is starting a cut flower farm. We spent this weekend laying out the garden plots and pruning the few old apple trees still left. I have toyed with the idea of growing hops for a brewery owned and operated by my sister and her husband - but that is a pretty significant capital investment (hop yard and irrigation). Someday, I would like to have some livestock...we'll see.”
