Modernized by artful problem-solving. This was the concept the client and I always went back to while making decisions on selections, colors... Our aesthetic decision-making was very in sync, which allowed us to work so well together. It felt like we were team members on this project.
The clients came to me with clear goals. We transformed the entire house by intentionally altering specific areas that did not work well architecturally or had been modified inappropriately during past renovations. Improving the function of the overall house included alterations and built-ins for the family of four, as the couple’s college-aged children come and go.
We did not have to change the exterior form of the home. Older failing units were replaced with functioning triple pane windows and larger better-functioning doors, a fresh exterior coat of stain and more appropriate lighting were updated.
Custom powder coating cabinet pulls, custom furniture grade linoleum cabinetry, handmade items like a concrete sink and zellige tile for the bathrooms, installed compositionally. Everything had to fit just so as we carved out interior space to function better for this family. My eye for color was re-activated during the project!
Visiting a year later it felt like a homecoming, seeing the gardens and landscape development, their day-to-day wonderings in the woods, and their love for this place was the biggest takeaway for me. I think we met our goals because if you love a place that is always the most sustainable.
We are an Architecture and Interiors practice, located in the Lake Sunapee region of central New Hampshire, focused on the design of custom homes, community buildings and mixed use projects throughout New England.
